Predators and Threats:
The insecticide dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT) has been known to cause lots of problems to a Bald Eagles survival. This is a common insecticide used for killing pests in the form of a white-grayish powder. The insecticide is known to cause weakness in the egg of a new Bald Eagle. Eletricutution is also a cause for death among Bald Eagles by flying into power lines. Shooting Bald Eagles is illegal but today is the leading cause of death. Lead poisoning and habitat loss is also known to cause trouble for a Bald Eagle's survival but is not the biggest threat. Since the Bald Eagle sits at the top of the food chain, it has no predators. But it is vulnerable to toxic chemicals in its environment. Osprey sometimes will fight against the Bald Eagle, but this rarely happens and normally no damage is done to either of the birds.
