Behavior:
When it is feeding time for Bald Eagles, they do not mess around. The Bald Eagle has a large curved beak and talons for hunting and catching prey. When a Bald Eagle spots its prey floating on top of the water or near the surface, it approaches its prey with a gentle, shallow glide towards the water. Then using its large, sharp talons it snatches the prey right out of the water. Then continues to fly out of the area. But sometimes these catches are not always successful. When catching a heavy fish out of the water the bird can be dragged down into the water. As a result, The Bald Eagle can drown trying to catch its prey. If the Bald Eagle does not drown, there is always the possibility that the Eagle might die from hypothermia. If the water is cold enough the Bald Eagle might get to cold and develop hypothermia. But most catches are successful. The Bald Eagle can also take flight from water if needed to.
